John M. Engquist

Founder

John Engquist is a seasoned executive, investor, and civic leader with decades of experience in the equipment services and real estate development industries. He spent the majority of his career at H&E Equipment Services, where he rose through nearly every position—from the ground floor to Executive Chairman—guiding the company through its transformation from a crane distribution and dealership model to a pure-play equipment rental company that led to a strategic merger with Herc Rentals in 2025. Mr. Engquist now resides on the Board of Directors of Herc Rentals.

As the founder and owner of Engquist Development, John has led the investment and development of major commercial and residential projects across Louisiana and the Southeastern United States, contributing to regional economic growth with a hands-on, strategic approach.

John currently serves on the Board of Directors of several companies, including Mohawk Industries, Inc., a Fortune 500 flooring manufacturer based in Calhoun, Georgia. Mr. Engquist is an active member on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana State University Foundation serving on the development, finance, and investment committees. His commitment to community and philanthropy is reflected in his work with the Dream Day Foundation, previous role on the Leadership Council of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and his prior service on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. John currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the FMOL Health System.
